Combatting Clogged Pores

If you’ve got large pores, or constant breakouts, chances are that your pores are clogged, suffocated and very unhappy. Large pores arise when sebum or contaminants are stuck in your pores, enlarging their initial size. Resultantly, your skin looks rougher, and your pores look more prominent. Acne also emerges when pores are contaminated with impurities or an excess of trapped sebum, and can even lead to acne scarring and blemishes!

We all want a way to make sure we’re taking good care of our skin, and making sure we are cleansing our pores properly to prevent any skin issues. Not only will this keep our skin looking bright, smooth, and beautiful, but it will more importantly keep our skin healthy.

Without further ado, here are some of the best ways of preventing and combating clogged pores!

  1. Face Steaming

While face steaming might sound slightly ridiculous at first, it is actually a very common beauty practise. The steam helps to open up your pores, and dislodges the trapped sebum and contaminants from the pores. This helps to release unwanted impurities from your skin, and gives your skin a deeper cleanse. Furthermore, the temperature promotes more blood circulation, leading to that dewy glow we love. Using this method as a step in your daily skincare routine could definitely help your skin in the long run!

2.  Makeup remover

Did you know that normal face wash is not enough for completely getting rid of makeup, especially from your pores? Without using a proper makeup remover, residue of foundations and concealers might get stuck in your pores, and accumulate bacteria and impurities. Hence, makeup remover should be an integral part of your cleansing routine if you wear makeup.

Personally, I adore Garnier’s Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water. It is extremely effective, but very gentle on the skin, and definitely doesn’t dry out the skin. It serves multiple functions such as cleansing skin, removing makeup, and refreshing the skin. Furthermore, it is non-comedogenic, and definitely won’t clog your pores.

3. Cleansing

This goes without saying – cleansing is the most important part of any skincare routine. This step is meant to purge all the environmental pollutants, sebum, oils, and dirt accumulated in and on the skin. Not using a proper facial cleanser for your skin could lead to a multitude of skin problems, or could even aggravate existing skin problems.

The best cleanser I have found to combat clogged pores is SW1’s Skin Laundry Refresh Sapphire Cleanser. It has clarifying and refreshing properties, and combats acne-causing clogs. With its gentle foaming formula, it dissolves acne-forming clogs easily, and features sebum controlling fruit enzymes. Your complexion will be clearer and brighter with this amazing face wash!

4. Exfoliating

The surface of your skin is actually covered with many dead skin cells, and sometimes these dead cells may block openings of pores. Resultantly, sebum, oil and dirt may get trapped inside your pores, and build up over time. One of the more effective ways to prevent this from happening is to exfoliate weekly, or biweekly, depending on your skin type. Exfoliating will help to get rid of the dead skin cells, and will also help in improving your complexion.

My favourite exfoliator is SW1’s Gold Flakes Illuminating Facial Scrub. It contains amazing ingredients such as champagne and pearl, and is vitaminized with vitamins A, C and E. It helps to draw out impurities, promotes blood and lymphatic circulation, while banishing dead skin. Furthermore, it is gentle, unlike other abrasive scrubs, and leaves the skin super soft and fresh.
