5 Habits that Make You Look Older Than Your Actual Age

Hands up, if you were too tired to remove your makeup on a late night? We are all guilty of cheating on our skin care routine once in a while, but when it becomes a habit, your skin suffers more than you would know.

Pigmentation, acne scars and missing that inner glow, are some of the side effects of not following a skin care routine. They also amount to ageing of skin and make you look much older than you are.

We’ve put together a handy list of 5 habits that you may be following (inadvertently) and are leading to ageing your skin.

1. Enjoying the sun, a little too much

There, we’ve said what no one will tell you. Enjoying a tan on a holiday is different from taking in the pool and the tropical sun, ever too often. Apart from being the number one reason your skin ages, time in the sun comes with its range of troubles such as pigmentation, wrinkles, and loss of skin elasticity. Now while we can’t take away all our time spent in the outdoors, we can certainly try to reduce it. Good UV protection is an absolute must as is a skincare program.

The Porcelain Skin Program at SW1 Clinic offers an intensive set of therapies to erase stubborn dark patches, pigmentation and provide overall whitening, just in under 2 months. The Pigment laser used in the program is approved by the FDA for treating skin discolouration. Teamed with LED RED, the therapies work on erasing signs of photo-damage and skin ageing. Alongside, Aqua dermabrasion and Pearl Éclat power on to help with radiance, glow and overall whitening.

2. Not using Retinol

How often have you been told that Retinol can help with ageing? Inclusion of retinol in your routine gives skin an edge – and take years off that face!

Vitamin A based drugs such as retinoids reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of collagen in our skins.  If you are seeking a retinol partner for the job, Age Defy  does just that and more. With hyaluronic acid and retinol as its key ingredients, this wonder cream plumps up skin to lift, firm, hydrate and of course take care of those lines!

3. Skipping your workout

Whether you enjoy it or not, some form of exercise is essential to keeping fit and looking good! While the benefits of working out are many including keeping your muscles moving and overall well being, exercise also take years off your face. By affecting the body on a cellular level, increasing collagen production and relieving stress, working out helps to keep those age lines at bay.

And any form of movement will do.  Whether it’s dancing, kick boxing or plain old running, go with a sustainable regime and the results will follow!

4.  Not feeding your skin vitamins

There’s a reason for your dull and tired skin. Not only does your body need essential minerals and vitamins from food and supplements, your skin thrives on it too. You should seriously consider taking Omega 3’s and a daily multivitamin after consulting with your doctor. There’s also the option of complimenting oral vitamins with topical ones.

Vitamin Therapy is a game changing pure vitamins treatment that has been specially concocted by the doctors at SW1 Clinic . During this therapy, vitamins are applied directly to cleansed skin, followed by a deep infusion and enhancing mask that allows maximum penetration of this goodness. Natural antioxidants heal cellular damage and stimulate collagen production along with lightening discoloured skin. Think of it as a power dose for maintenance, repair and rejuvenation – just what vitamins are for!

5. Letting acne linger

If you thought acne happens only in the teenage years, your skin is probably proving you wrong. A skin ailment resulting from how our skin’s oil glands react to hormones and external substances, acne can be an all consuming menace. If you aren’t too bothered by it or better still waiting to outgrow it, remember bad skin and permanent scars don’t make a youthful face. As mentioned above, a good skin care regime should be a priority along with the use of topicals such as Retinol, Azelaic Acid and Salicylic Acid that are proven weapons against the war on acne. But, if it’s attacking acne in the roots you are after, Forever Clear BBL is a program worth considering. Using a proprietary broadband light in the blue and redness spectrum, it helps detoxify skin from the inside-out and accelerates skin healing to take care of those nasty post acne scars. The yellow light band minimises sebaceous gland activity and hence tones down oil production – literally, solving the problem by its roots!
